Interview Done By Mike Wilkerson

MW: Tell me about your first time on a stage?
SS: I first played on a stage when I was quite young, about 12 or 13 at school. I was in a band which was made up of kids from other years and we played loads of classic pop songs. I don’t remember too much about it but it was quite exciting at the time. I then played in an indie rock band playing generic original material with a few other guys my age. This was when ‘Britpop’ was massive in the UK and everyone loved that kinda thing.I didn’t play metal live until I was much older with NightMare World. We played a few gigs in 2009 around the released of our E.P. ‘No Regrets’. This culminated in a ‘Bloodstock’ festival appearance in the UK which was cool and good exposure for us. We have not played any gigs since then, so are looking to get stuck in with some live dates to support our new album ‘In the Fullness of Time’.

MW: How did Nightmare World come about?
SS: Originally, back in the early 2000s, Billy and I jammed a lot together as we lived locally and connected through a magazine advert I seem to remember. Nick Clarke joined us on keys and we had a stable lineup for a while but it disbanded just after we recorded a demo song. Fast forward a few years and I decided to resurrect the band and made the ‘No Regrets’ E.P. I found a great drummer called Rich Thomson (Xerath vocalist) who recorded the drum tracks in a day at Thin Ice Studios. Through contacts at the studio, Pete Morten was mentioned and we suddenly had a vocalist! Pete and I set about finishing off the E.P. Nick Clarke rejoined the band on keyboards, having been in an earlier version of the band. Joey Cleary played bass on the E.P., though now he is the other guitarist! Around the time of the release of the E.P.,  Billy rejoined the band on drums, and we have David Moorcroft on bass.

MW: Describe Nightmare World to me?
SS: Melodic Heavy Metal. Heavy riffs, catchy choruses. Sounds like anything between Judas Priest, Yngwie Malmsteen, Helloween and Queensryche.

MW: Where is Nightmare World from?
SS: We are all from the United Kingdom, though different parts. I live in North Yorkshire as does Joey, Pete lives somewhere in the Midlands now, David lives in Liverpool and the rest live near London. Rehearsals take a bit of organisation!

MW: What is Nightmare World’s plans for 2015?
SS: Release the album in May, with the vinyl release coming a couple of months later. Hopefully we will play some live shows later in the year. Playing in mainland Europe at a festival or two would be great.

MW: Will Nightmare World be on tour? And where?
SS: See above.

MW: If you could play with any artist or band who would it?
SS: Probably Ronnie James Dio, though of course that isn’t possible now. I loved his voice, it had so much power to it.

MW: What would you like to say in closing?
SS: Please check the band out. If you even remotely into the more melodic side of metal then you should enjoy what we do. If you like what you hear, please buy the album and support us!
