Interview Done By Mike Wilkerson
MW: Please introduce yourself?
ML: I’m a 54-year old business owner, author, husband, and father of four.
MW: How many years have you been running in the Boston Marathon?
ML: This was my fifth Boston in the last nine years.
MW: How were you doing in the Boston Marathon this year?
ML: Best race ever, alas. I was just approaching Heartbreak Hill–the last of the hills in Newton, at mile 19 — when the race was ended.
MW: What do you remember when the first bomb went off?
ML: A woman on her cell phone running alongside me got off her phone and said, “There’s a bomb on the finish line.” The guy I was running with said, “No, it’s probably just a gas line going off. The infrastructure down there is so old.” Obviously you wanted to believe him.
MW: Where were you when the first bomb went off?
ML: Around mile 18. Far enough away to have no idea.
MW: What do you remember when the second bomb went off?
ML: A little further along. After the woman said that she’d heard about a bomb, I asked the people watching if they’d heard anything. At first, the answer was no. And then someone said, yes, something just happened. Two bombs.
MW: Where were you when the second bomb went off?
ML: Just a little further along.
MW: Play out the day for me?
ML: Beautiful day, perfect weather, especially after last year’s race when it was 87 degrees. I felt great and was moving nicely. My body was cooperating — no pain, no strain. Just what you hope for. Then comes the news. Then the cops are putting up crime scene tape across the race route, and they put us in squad cars and then took us to a church on the Boston College campus to see what would happen next and keep us secure. It was eerie. Frustrating. Deflating. And then ultimately, tragic.
MW: How many runners were in the Boston Marathon this year?
ML: I think around 27,000. Last year, the BAA strongly suggested deferring because of the heat.
MW: Now that it is over is it really ever going to be over?
ML: It’ll always be in the back of my mind that something could happen again. You just have to hope that security will keep pace with the bad guys. A cop told me, they use bomb-sniffing dogs to secure the route the day before the race, the day of the race, and then during the race. So the bad guys were a step ahead.
MW: What would you like to say in closing?
ML: You can’t let these criminals be the real winners of the Boston Marathon, and you do that if the rest of us modify our behavior out of fear. Life goes on. It’s highly unfortunate that we must live with these events, but we can’t let the bad guys win.

Salwa Amin (W Va Regional Jail/Splash News)Looks like there’s already a juicy story line for season two of MTV’s “Buckwild.”
Salwa Amin, a cast member on the reality show about rural teens and their freewheeling exploits, was hauled to a West Virginia jail on Wednesday in connection to a previous arrest.
Amin, 24, was busted in February and charged with four counts of possession and intent to distribute both OxyContin and heroin.
After she missed a court date in relation to the incident, a judge ordered her right back to jail, where TMZ says she’s currently being held without bail.

But Amin hasn’t been the only source of controversy for the series, which MTV renewed for a second season in February.
When “Buckwild” premiered in January, West Virgina Senator Joe Manchin attacked both the network and its stars, saying the show “plays to ugly, inaccurate stereotypes about the people of West Virginia.”
Stay tuned for developments in Amin’s case or, frankly, bide your time for season 2.

Interview With John Spencer – Space Architect & Founder And President Of The Space Tourism Society (STS)
Posted: 03/09/2013 in NewsInterview Done By Mike Wilkerson
MW: Please introduce yourself?
JS: John Spencer
Space Architect
Founder and President of the Space Tourism Society (STS)
www.SpaceTourismSociety.org
Based in Los Angeles
MW: How did you become a Space Architect?
JS: In 1978 while studying architecture in college I was introduced to the concept of real space colonies in Earth orbit and decided right then to design them. This brought together my love for design, science and envisioning the future. I have never looked back.
MW: What does a Space Architect do?
JS: We design the interiors of real space vehicles, Moon and Mars bases and future resorts. Some of us help create concepts for space ventures and space sports. We focus on the human factors and quality of the space experience and the health and wellbeing of the crews and passengers.
MW: How did The Space Tourism Society (STS) come about?
JS: Since 1982 I have modeled the space tourism industry after the cruise line industry. In the mid 1990s I added ocean going super yachts to this model. At that time there was enough interest and people working on creating a space tourism industry I decided to start the Space Tourism Society (STS) and just did.
MW: What does The Space Tourism Society do?
JS: We are the leading society advocating the development of the space tourism industry with a clear focus on the quality and uniqueness of the passenger experience. We envision cool ventures, generate great images of people enjoying the space experience, do real research into how to bring about our plans, have over a dozen STS chapters around the world, produce events and award shows and host the Space Experience Economy (SEE) Seminar Series and new Space Tours – Los Angeles program. We also provide resources and news on our web site. We are also a major hub of info and networking for the media.
MW: What is all the talk about space travel about?
JS: New life changing experience for a growing range of people from around the world. The private space enterprise/tourism industry is growing at an accelerating rate with new ventures forming monthly.
MW: Is it very realistic?
JS: There are now ten billionaires investing in and building private space enterprise/tourism companies. See list below. Some of these companies have billions of dollars on contracts to provide services to the International Space Station (ISS) launch satellites and soon provide sub-orbital flights for space tourist. Eight private citizens have paid up to $45 million for to fly to the ISS for over a week of space experiences. There is a long waiting list to go. To date they have all been sent to space by a company called Space Adventures. www.SpaceAdventures.com
What do these billionaires all have in common?
They have started or invested in space enterprise/tourism ventures
Paul Allen, Co-founder of Microsoft
Larry Page, Co-founder and CEO Google, Inc.
Eric E. Schmidt, Executive Chairman of Google Inc.
Ram Shriram, Founding board member of Google Inc.
Jeff Bezos, Founder of Amazon.com
Sir Richard Branson, Founder of the Virgin Companies
Elon Musk, Co-founder of PayPal
Robert Bigelow, Founder of the Budget Suites hotel chain
Charles Simonyi, Ph.D., Chairman and CTO, Intentional Software
Ross Perot, Jr., Chairman of The Perot Group
Producer/director/explorer James Cameron is an advisor to some of these ventures
MW: How many times as non astronauts gone to space? And how?
JS: There have been over a dozen “guests” such as U.S. Senators and Congressmen, journalist, contest winners flown into Earth orbit by NASA and by the Russians. Plus the 7 people who have paid to fly to the ISS. One person has flown twice.

MW: How long in the future do you think it will be till this will be possible again?
JS: Two to three years. Most likely the next space tourism will fly on a SpaceX rocket.

MW: What different plans are being sold at this time?
JS: Good question with a long answer. There is a “Space Renaissance” in progress with close to 100 private enterprise/tourism companies participating with new ventures and ideas. This is why STS started the Space Experience Economy (SEE) Seminar Series held in Los Angeles (the “hub” of the space renaissnce) to review what is happening and forecast what is coming. This day long seminar only touches the surface of what is happening now.
MW: Is there any concept photos of what people would travel in?

MW: What are some of the plans for the real estate in outer space?
JS: If you mean on the Moon and asteroids there are several companies looking into the legal issues of owning off-world real estate. Can companies own parts of the Moon? It’s a major question being addressed.
MW: Do you think only rich people will have a chance to go to outer space?
JS; For a long time 30 years plus only rich people will be able to afford the cost of going to Earth orbit and beyond. For decades it was very expensive to fly in airplanes but eventually the cost came down. The same will happen with space travel. There will be many people who win contests to go and very rich people and companies will eventually own orbital super yachts and invite people to them for free like they do for their ocean going super and mega yachts.
MW: What are your plans for the future?
JS: I’m pioneering the design and development of the orbital yacht industry and orbital and lunar cruise lines. We are also getting more into media projects about the above and designing and developing Earth based immersive space themed resorts and attractions.
MW: What would you like to say in closing?
JS: We have only just begun exploring the space experience design frontier.
Heavy Metal Singer Randy Blythe From Lamb Of God Cleared Over Czech Fan’s Death
Posted: 03/05/2013 in Music, NewsSource: The Independent
By Steve Anderson

Randy Blythe, the singer for US metal band Lamb of God, had manslaughter charges against him dropped in a Czech court today following a trial over a fan’s death at a concert in Prague three years ago.
The prosecution had accused 42-year-old Blythe of pushing Daniel Nosek, 19, off the stage, causing him to hit his head, after which he was taken to hospital, where he died several weeks later.
Judge Thomas Kubovec at Prague Municipal Court ruled that Blythe’s actions did not constitute a crime and directed the prosecution to a civil court if they wished to apply for compensation.
The prosecution immediately appealed against the judge’s decision to the Czech High Court.
Blythe, who was charged with causing an injury leading to death, admitted to shoving a fan off the stage during the 2010 Prague show but said he believed the person was unharmed.
He said he did not learn of Nosek’s death or the prosecution over the incident until police arrested him at Prague airport when the band returned for another gig in June last year.
Blythe was released on bail and travelled back to the United States, but returned for his trial. He would have faced up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
According to Czech news site Novinky, earlier in proceedings Blythe had said: “If I thought that I was guilty, I would admit it.
“I still believe that I acted reasonably to protect myself, our gear and the audience.
“If I am guilty I will take it like a man.”
Thomas Hryvnia, defending, said that the fault lay with the crowd control staff, according to Novinky.
“If they had done what they were supposed to, people would not be on stage and this would never have happened.”
Blythe this afternoon thanked fans for supporting him.
Posting a message on his Instagram page he said: “I have been found not guilty & acquitted of all charges against me. I am a free man.
“Please remember the family of Daniel Nosek in your thoughts & prayers in this difficult time. I only wish for them peace. Thank you for your support.”
Messages of congratulations and relief flooded Lamb of God’s Twitter feed, with the band simply writing: “Randy is finally free”
